Such is the mystery in the works of Jeremy Hatch and Mathew McConnell, two artists dedicated to exploiting clay’s potential for exacting replication. While Hatch and McConnell come to their forms in very different ways and for very different reasons, each artist has committed himself to the power inherent in unerring fidelity and simple material substitution. Along with a reduced, uniform color palette of white or black, the importance of form rises above all else.”
